Youth Advisory Committee
Youth Advisory Committee (YAC)
AIDS New Brunswick has developed an initiative aimed at promoting the participation and membership of young people in the development and delivery of prevention programs. Since April 2000, this committee made up of a diverse group of youth from across the province, has been providing input on programs and policy development for AIDS New Brunswick in terms of youth programs, services, and initiatives throughout the province.
Achievements:
- Developed a 1-800 HIV/AIDS Information Line sticker to promote the use of our HIV/AIDS Information Line.
- Developed the HIV Risk Reduction pamphlet. This plain language tool provides basic information about HIV (e.g., how do you get HIV, how do I avoid getting HIV, what are the risks, how do I know if I have it).
- Developed the youth-specific component to AIDS New Brunswick’s web site.
- Through informal focus groups, developed an Information Sheet for Teachers
- YAC created a desktop calendar called “12 months to becoming a sexpert” which educated university aged youth through illustration and fun facts.
Future goals:
- Exploring the possibility of matchbox, magnets, key chains, pens and pencils with the YAC logo and the HIV/AIDS information number on them.
- For further information about YAC initiatives or for information about how you can get involved, please contact AIDS New Brunswick at 1-800-561-4009 or send us an email youth@aidsnb.com
