Volunteer Job Descriptions

Below is a listing of volunteer opportunities offered with AIDS New Brunswick. Each of these positions is accompanied by a brief overview of the position. In addition, a detailed two page job description for all volunteer positions is available in PDF format by clicking on the position title.

Although not included in this list, volunteers are also occasionally needed to fill positions on our Board of Directors and on our three advisory committees.

Ambassadorial Volunteer••
The position of Ambassadorial Volunteers was designed for people who do not live in Fredericton but are interested in volunteering with AIDS New Brunswick. Ambassadorial Volunteers help our organization provide outreach to people in other communities in the province. Some activities include distributing HIV/AIDS and safer sex information in a particular community and promoting membership in the organization.

Buddy/Peer Support Volunteer
Buddy/Peer support volunteers act as a support person for either a peer living with HIV/AIDS, or their informal/formal care-giver, or for a peer who is gay, lesbian or bi-sexual. This support can occur through a variety of means including face to face contact, telephone, and/or electronic communication. In order to be a buddy/ peer support volunteer, the volunteer must self-identify with at least one of these groups.

Resource Centre/Library Volunteer
Resource Centre/ Library Volunteers manage our Resource Centre/Library, including our books, videos, periodicals and other print material collections, and help staff with our bi-monthly treatment information mail-out for our clients living with or affected by HIV/AIDS. In addition to these areas, this group of volunteers provides staff with general office support in a variety of areas. Resource Centre/ Library Volunteers must be available during office hours, Monday-Friday, 8:30-12:30 and 1:30-4:30 .

Speakers Bureau
This category consists of two types of volunteer positions, both of which contribute to the educational goals of the organization. The first type of position is for people living with HIV/AIDS, their caregivers, and/or others affect by HIV/AIDS who make personal speaks of their experiences in the community in an effort to raise awareness on HIV/AIDS issues and create/enhance a supportive environment for those living with HIV/AIDS. The second type of Speaker’s Bureau position is open to all volunteers willing to work at our Information Displays and hand-out pamphlets at community events.

Special Events & Funds Development Volunteer
Special Events & Funds Development Volunteers help AIDS New Brunswick plan, organize, and carry out special events and fundraising campaigns. These volunteers are also involved in researching funding opportunities.

Special Project Volunteer••
Special Project Volunteers work with the organization on special projects which are either initiated by the organization itself or are designed and carried out by interested volunteers in an attempt to enhance the programs and services of AIDS New Brunswick.

Translation Volunteer
Translation Volunteers translate and proofread documents for the organization, usually from English to French. As we are a provincial agency, the organization works to provide all of our services and information in both official languages.

Walk-in-Programs Volunteer
Walk-in-Programs Volunteers are involved in our Needle Exchange Program and in the distribution of condoms and other safer sex materials. In addition to working in these programs, this group of volunteers provides staff with general office support in a variety of areas. Walk-in-Programs Volunteers must be available during office hours, Monday-Friday, 8:30-12:30 and 1:30-4:30.
